A Valentine Quilted Heart

Are you one of those people who have everything together (yeah me neither)? You know what I mean, the kind that creates fun things for your family like lunches that are really special, decorate your house for Valentine’s, Easter and St. Patrick’s day and write quirky little notes tucked away for them to find during their day?
Valentine Quilted Heart - Paper Crafted

Yes you know the kind! The kind we all want to be but when life’s reality hits and you fall so behind with ordinary things like dishes and washing you just go with the flow.

Well today I am encouraging you (and myself) to be the former – to try and create something special for your loved ones, to write the little note even if it makes you 5 minutes late, to let go of the mundane and do what really matters.

Valentine Quilted Heart - Decoration

So in lieu of all of that I have created a fun quilted heart that took only minutes to make to spread some love in our home this February. Striving to be better here!

And of course who better to help me than Lady Pattern Paper herself. I combined my red stars and pink dots together to create this fun heart – it’s by no means perfect and therein lies the charm for me at least. It is just going with the flow and creating.

Step 1

Create a black chalkboard background. Cut the background to the right size and then rub it with white chalk.

Step 2

Use your fingers to smudge the chalk a little bit. Then take a soft cloth and wipe the chalk lightly to mimic a real chalkboard look.

Step 3

Cut a word or sentiment out of black Lady Pattern Paper using your Silhouette machine.

Step 4

Cut a whole bunch of paper scraps into triangles. I cut mine freehand so they are not perfect in any way.

Valentine Quilted Heart - Step 4

Step 5

Adhere the triangles to the chalkboard background using adhesive. Then add random messy sewing to the heart to mimic the look of a quilt.

Valentine Quilted Heart - Step 5

Adhere the word or sentiment and finish off with some diamanté and pearls. Add it to an old clipboard and display it in your home, at the coffee station or breakfast table on Valentine’s Day.

You can create seasonal blackboards and change them up with the seasons or special days. This valentine quilted heart is a quick and easy project that even the kids can get involved with.

Celebrate in style this month of love and go the extra mile in spite of real life.
