The fussy cuts in the Lil’ Kiddos collection were all so sweet so I thought a mobile would be the perfect way to put them on display. I thought this would take me all weekend to put together, but with the help of the Scan n Cut, it actually only took a couple of hours – such a nice relaxing weekend project.
PREPARING THE DESIGNS
- Using the Brother Scan n Cut (SnC) machine, I cut all the images from one of the “Unicorns” fussy cut sheet.
- Using the life-saving Scan-To-Cut function that the ScN offers, I was able to save the outline for all the images and cut the mirror of each image from the coordinating papers. This allows me to have a front and a back to each design and the ability to wedge the string in between them to anchor on the mobile string.
- Also using the SnC, I cut 40 hearts from the “Rainbows” and “Tiny Dancer” papers (20 hearts from each).
PREPARING THE CHIPPIES
- For the 2 centre strings, I used the rainbow and the “girl magic” chippies. I painted each using acrylic paints.
- For the girl magic chipboard piece, I outlined the letters with a white gel pen, and I matted the entire piece with a coordinating paper to give the back a bit more interest.
- For the clouds chippie, I added some Finnabair Unicorn paste to the white part of the clouds to give it some texture and glittery shine (hard to capture on camera).
ASSEMBLING THE MOBILE
- I used the inside piece on an embroidery hoop and some white wool. Coloured twine would also look great, as long as it’s not too thick.
- I measured five 2m long strings. These were folded in half and I tied a knot to create a loop. This loop allows for hanging ten lines to attach the designs and beads. I added a wooden bead to the base of the loop to give the mobile stability and a more finished look.
- Eight strings were tied to an embroidery hoop, spaced evenly apart, and two were left hanging in the middle.
- I arranged 4 designs per string, staggering the positions. The string was glued in between each design’s front and back pieces.
- The chippies were attached to the 2 centre strings.
- Each string was tied on the ends with beads, tying knots under each one to keep them in place.
This handmade mobile is such a lovely way to decorate a girl’s room. The same method may be used with the Beep-Beep fussy cut sheet also included in the Lil’ Kiddos scrapbooking paper pack 🚗
